Appointments
Dr. Brochu feels very strongly that if you have paid for his service, you deserve his personal attention. Because of this belief, Dr. Brochu personally sees and treats each patient at every visit. He places and removes the appliances (braces, expanders), and makes adjustments to all wires and retainers - not his staff.
Our opinion is that your time is as valuable as ours and we maintain a schedule that reflects this philosophy. We always strive to see you promptly, at your appointed time.
Your scheduled appointment times are reserved specifically for you. We request a minimum of 24 hour notice if you need to cancel your appointment. We are aware that unforeseen events do occur; however, for optimal treatment results, we must see you on a regular basis, at specific treatment intervals.
We appreciate that many patients may prefer to come in early or late in the day, and do not wish to be absent form school or work any more than is absolutely necessary. We cannot guarantee that appointments before and after school will always be available, as certain procedures are scheduled at specific times. Each patient will have some appointments scheduled before 3pm, for all appointments of 30 minutes or more. For these longer appointments we can provide an approved excuse slip for school absences. We reserve our after-school appointments (after 3pm) for short 5-15 minute adjustment visits.
What to Expect
The first appointment consists of an initial exam which may take between 15-20 minutes. Please come a little early to complete new patient paperwork.
During the second appointment, diagnostic records will be completed. Diagnostic records include photos, x-rays and impressions of your teeth. This appointment may last 15-20 minutes as well.
The third appointment is the consultation; Dr. Brochu will discuss your personal treatment plan in detail while showing you the x-rays and models from your previous appointment. If the decision is made to proceed with treatment, spacers for molar bands may be placed at this at this time. This appointment may last 15-20 minutes. If molar bands are to be placed at a later time, we will need to see you approximately three days before your banding appointment for a quick 5-minute visit.
The fourth appointment is a longer one. Depending on the severity of your case, the appointment when your braces ("appliances") are placed on your teeth may range between 30-90 minutes. We'll discuss the amount of time needed with you when we schedule this appointment.
Regular monthly adjustment visits with us are typically 5-15 minutes long. As you near the completion of your treatment, we will schedule the appointment for removing your appliances ("debanding"). This is another longer one- one to two hours. Again, we will advise you of the length of this appointment when it is being scheduled.
About a week following the debanding, we will need to have you come in to fit your retainer. This appointment is generally 15-20 minutes long.
After that, we'll need to see your beautiful smile periodically for a "Retention Visit". At these visits, we will check your retainer and make sure that your teeth have not shifted. These quick visits are usually about 5 minutes.
Our regular office hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Late Arrivals
Late arrivals for short appointments can generally be accommodated, depending on the schedule. If you arrive late for a lengthy appointment, we may be required to reschedule, as we are obligated to honor the scheduled appointment times of our other patients.
Cancellation of an Appointment
If it is necessary to cancel an appointment, please notify us 24-hours in advance so that we may accommodate other patients in need of an appointment. We understand that emergencies arise where it is not possible to give 24-hours notice of cancellation; therefore, we allow a total of three cancelled appointments without advance notifications. Should you miss more than one appointment without contacting us, additional fees may apply.
